Deveaux Bank is managed by DNR in order to protect coastal birds. The island is an important site for many nesting South Carolina seabirds; it is also home to the largest colony of Brown Pelicans on the Atlantic coast. Most of the bank is usually closed with the exception of part of the island that has been designated for limited recreational use
